The Sovereign God

It is a FACT that God is SOVEREIGN by incontestable right. The ultimate source of

immeasurable power and transformational authority is unquestionable but limitlessly

loving (1 John 4:16, Ephesians 3:18, Lamentation 3:22). Some argue about God’s

sovereignty but considering humans are yet to discover how to create breath, brain or

bowel, such audacity should be ignored. Assaults on humans like corona, cholera,

conjunctivitis are reminders that man is fallible and would bend or break when the

natural order of things are tampered with. Nature was tampered with in Eden when

humans trusted Satan. This brought historical trauma on humanity (Romans 5:12). What

we eat, drink, say, do, where we go, how we live etc. decrease longevity God served

humanity at creation. The wise know that God is ABSOLUTELY SOVEREIGN. Why?

1.       God Creates

God created all in nature. We are the works of His hands. Isaiah 47:20, Is 46:10,

Colossians 1:16, Psalm 24

2.       God Completes

The fullness of the Deity is complete in Jesus and by extension all humans (Colossians

2:9). God started and completed the work of creation. The Faithful One has started a

new chapter of taking up the fatherhood of his children as they carry on his legacy.

Philippians 1:6, Genesis 2:1-2, John 17:4

3.       God Controls

God is in absolute control and rules over the living and the dead. His authority extends

over nature, seasons and elements. He grants salvation. He grants mercy. He blesses

one and decides against blessing another. Abuja may boil, Washington DC may burn,

Presidents may lose control but God has never and will never be out of control. He is

GOD. Psalm 115:3, Ephesians 1:11, Psalm 103:19, Job 42:2

4.       God Commands

He said let there be and there was. Who can annul when God has commanded. By God’s

decree earth was established. Power belongs to God! O bu Chineke nwe ike! Psalm

62:11, Genesis 1:3, Psalm 33:9, Lamentation 1:5, 12-16, 2:1-10, Isaiah 1:17

5.       God Calls

Saul was on the dark side. He supervised the terror unleashed on Saints. God later

arrested Saul’s will and turned it into a worthy mantle. God called our brother into

fatherhood. He called him to serve humanity through his life’s role. He in his sovereignty

called him away from that role. How well would we carry on till God calls us too? Psalm

24, Romans 8:28, 1 Corinthians 1:26-27, Ephesians 4:4

6.       God Counsels

God is called the Wonderful Counsellor (Isaiah 9:6). Many would reach you with advice;

focus on God’s counsel. The Scriptures noted that the counsel of the ungodly shall not

stand. Psalm 73:24, Psalm 33:11, Joshua 1:9, Proverbs 31: 8-9, 2 Samuel 15:31,

7.       God Connects

Look at all those around. We are celebrating the life of God’s ambassador, your son,

brother, husband, father, uncle, hero because his parents were brought together after

which he was connected to his wife. God is using his home call to connect us all. What

role would we play in the life of his wife and children after today? God is the Divine

Connector. Colossians 2:19, Romans 12:5, Ephesians 2:13, 1 John 4:7

8.       God Crushes

How many times have we been saved from death? What battles have God finished for

us; what wars have God won to make you a wonder. God will arise to crush enemies

who make this death a reason to attempt threat or theft. He will arise to crush whoever

may have been nefarious or negligent where death was not natural. He will arise with

vengeance and crush the culture that may seek to humiliate, discriminate and defraud

rather than harmonise and defend. Lamentations 16:33

9.       God Concludes

This is the one the just and unjust do not like. Whether in the middle of prosperity or

pain, God concludes. Sovereign God is a FINISHER. At Calvary God said, “It is FINISHED.”

He gave up life to enter into eternity. He is not our genie and so WILL NOT take

permission from us about when He elects to remove his Saints from labour field or

battle front, or end the life of workers of iniquity. The drawing line is where they end up,

hades or heaven? The Sovereign God CONCLUDES. Did our brother lay down his life or

God took it because He was too bruised to carry on the journey or to shield Him

permanently from this broken, damaged world? We may never know and we cannot

question God because God is SOVEREIGN. 1 Samuel 2:6, Psalm 139:16, Job 1:21-22

10.   God Comforts

Lazarus the friend of Jesus died and humans lamented. Humans lamented when the

sojourn of the Son of God was concluded. But God rolled out His voice in consolation

and warmth in comfort. John 11:35 have the most powerful show of humanity and

vulnerability that GOD displayed. Jesus wept. After conclusion what next? Comfort. I

pray comfort on all his siblings who were with him when he began the journey of life. I

pray comfort for friends, extended families and loved ones across the world. I pray

comfort for his children who received the gift of life through him. I pray divine

consolation for them, as they keep wondering why daddy did not stay for graduations,

weddings, naming ceremonies and achievements. I pray divine embracement for his

darling wife, Pearl Kanu. English Language has no lexicon to convey my heartfelt prayer

but as I have said repeatedly, God will hold you. When we yield, The Sovereignty of God

comforts us. Joshua 1:9

11.   God Confirms

Many pray Rest In Peace, some say Rest In Power but we are reminded in the Bible that

the works done here on earth would determine whom God would say to, “Enter my

rest”. After death is judgement and The Sovereign God decides who will enter into

Eternal Rest or Eternal Damnation. God will confirm to you His beloved how He wants

you to carry on. As Psalm 119:165 states, “Great peace have those who love your

law; nothing can make them stumble.” In obeying God, we will come to a place of

confirmation where God will grant you supernatural peace that surpass human

understanding. Most importantly, he will confirm rest for our brother (Matthew 25:21).

Finally…

That God hears your prayer does not mean He will heed. He is not your

genie, HE IS GOD. Know and accept His power, purpose, position and

place as THE CREATOR. ~ Dr. Omolola Omoteso

Revelation 22:13 “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the

last.” Today we commit our brother back to the earth from which he was created. We

return his body into creation. His soul is already with The Creator.

May our minds be safeguarded from depression that comes with departure of beloved?

Many can’t process this. I spoke to him... We prayed for healing. We expected healing.

Like you, I have questions but, who do we ask? Jesus is the answer...

Was it enemies that sneaked in behind us? Did God call his son away from life’s labour?

In time revelations will unfold and confirmations will follow. If God made it happen, can

we question him? If we do, can we change his ABSOLUTE SOVEREIGNTY?

I have no idea what you heard but grief does not get better with days but time will shed

more light and grant us the liberty to move ahead. We can only do so sanely IF we take

on the courage to be consoled, comforted and healed. As loved ones, we have done our

part while he yet lived. However the ceremonies to celebrate his life turns out,

remember you did your part. What more you could have done, does not exist now.

Trying to conjure it will drain and depress you.

“Till death do us part” is an error message couples are made to chant which gives false

hope of severance. All he built with our sister stares us all in the face including their

lovely children. Final is never final. Closure does not come with death or with funeral.

Words will play back, worries will step in, queries will follow, endless questions may

never be answered and those unguided and unguarded may walk into quagmire...

But God remains God. God creates. God completes. God controls. God commands. God

calls. God counsels. God connects. God crushes. God concludes. God comforts. God

confirms. Remember Proverbs 4:23, and continue to meditate on Psalm 23 especially 4.

We are here because we received the gift of our brother’s life - as son, brother,

husband, friend and family. We are here today because He was a gift to his clan,

community, country, company class and church. We are here because he was an

achiever who excelled; a galvaniser who reached out beyond his comfort zone. We are

here because a great man departed and earth is depleted because of his absence. We

are here because a man of family who held on to faith has been called off to eternity.

His epitaph could read, “Here rests a great man.” What will yours read
