Called Into Fellowship

Praise

Amazing love how can can it be
That you my LORD would die for me
Amazing love how can can it be
That you my LORD would die for me

Sermon:

Genesis 1:27 reminds us that we are created in God's image, and as such, we have a covenant with Him. This covenant is a call to rule (Genesis) and reign (Revelation) rooted in fellowship with God, which precedes our relationship with others.

Genesis 5:2 records that God's intentional act of creation, brought male and female into existence. This is a fundamental aspect of God's divine design. God called them mankind or humankind to signify shared identity and unity of the human race, linking all people to this foundational creation event.

When God rested after creation, it was neber because He was tired; He rested because He was done. Before we take a vacation or step back, we must ask ourselves: Are we done with our assignment for this season?

In Genesis, we see Adam and Eve, created in God's image, equal in God's eyes (Romans 8:17). Adam and Eve were incomplete without each other; they needed to work together to fulfil the task of sustaining the Garden of Eden.

Their relationship was built on mutual love, respect, and care. Ephesians 5:33 reminds us to love and respect one another.

The commentary by John Skinner highlights Eve's equality to Adam, emphasising partnership over subservience. Subserviency may be cultural but not scriptural. It is best for Christians to stick with the Christlile culture and norm we know and understand than to dabble into tribal cultures.

The term helpmeet is an image of God's covenant relationship with humanity. In Psalm 54:4, God is our helper, and in Psalm 46:1, our refuge and strength.

The term "helpmeet" originates from Genesis 2:18, where God says, "I will make a helper suitable for him" (Adam). The Hebrew word "ezer" (help) conveys a sense of strength, support, and partnership.

In the context of God's relationship with humanity, "helpmeet" symbolises:

1. Covenant Partnership:
God's desire for a mutual, loving relationship with humanity.

2. Support and Strength:
God provides guidance, protection, and empowerment.

3. Intimacy and Companionship:
A deep, personal connection, as seen in God's relationship with Adam and Eve.

This concept highlights God's relational nature, emphasising His willingness to engage with humanity in a meaningful, supportive way.

Adam and Eve's story shows us that we are incomplete without each other. We need each other to fulfill God's mission and commission. And we must remain in community to safeguard sacred mission.

When a chicken gets out of the fold, the wolf attacks it as food. Satan lurks waiting for us to be separated from the family of Christ God put us in. When we stray from the flock, Satan attack.

Bind us together with cords that cannot be broken is a song of unity and support that we must exemplify. We need each other to do the commission and mission of faith.

As we reflect on our relationships and assignments, it is important to prioritise fellowship with God and with each other.

Remember that when Jesus was done with His earthly assignment, He returned into fellowship with the Trinity.

Are we done with our tasks?

While we are committedly working on our task, are we walking in unity and love?

Key Points:

1. Fellowship with God precedes human relationships.

2. Male and female are equal in God's eyes.

3. Mutual love and respect are essential for the success of relationships.

4. Unity and support are crucial for fulfilling God's mission.

Action Step

1. Reflect on your relationships and assignments.

2. Prioritise fellowship with God and unity with others.

3. Love and respect those around you.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, help couples to rest in your presence, knowing we are done in your eyes when we have fulfilled our assignments. Strengthen our bond with each other, help us to submit one to another and guide us in your mission for us here on earth. Amen.
