African Women in America

Did things get tougher for African Women or to be politically correct, African American Women in USA or it is just me?

Getting housing is herculean for females, getting health insurance is herculean, getting husband is HERCULEAN… well, for many. But Divine Connection continues to help in this regard. Through the model by DC, I was fortunate that my man found me, but cold hands and heart clogged him to death in the nation of his birth where he went just to support his friend and make life better economically for the masses. How I wish he listened to warnings that neither his friend nor family would prioritise his health.

The journey to relevance has been rough, but I have followed my favourite Biblical principle of whatever thy hand finds to do, do it with all thy might… I have worked as counsellor (oh please, I write it with double l), content creator, chef, caregiver, cleaner, coach, coordinator, consultant and of course communicator to bring in the cash.

At one job, I performed so excellently, and a committee came together to offer me Assistant Teacher. I laughed and nicely declined. Even though I left doctorate degree off my resume abi na CV, how sane is it for someone with dual masters to be offered AT in an Elementary School! Even in Nigeria, as far back as 1997, a Principal rejected my NYSC Posting because he insisted my degree in Philosophy is better suited for tertiary education.

At one job, in an attempt for me to fail, no one gave me IEP for my one on one and review was skipped just to make me falter. I excelled so well that they began to search for faults and the one they found is that I gave Easter gift to Christian student who gave me gift for Christmas.

At one job, the African American on the interview panel insisted I was better than my resume, so she got the others to approve for me to apply as Manager. I was excited, I thought I finally found a truthful company. As the Caucasian to interview me for the role of Manager came to the reception to take me in, he said, I know already how much time I will spend with you. Rather than 30-60 minutes earmarked, he minced no words to convey his preference was for the skin tone called white. Pleas to made call officer which I was approved for before upgrade fell on deafness... He wrapped up so fast, I wish I told my ride to wait!

Even doing “charity” in America has been tough. Books sent to prison to indirectly serve soul care to inmates, returned to us about 3 months after tattered. Though it was presented like it was never opened. The pack was opened, the books were ripped, a note was inside and Fedex refused to reimburse for the damage.

Insurance dollars that should have been disbursed when our property was flooded went into voice note. It is like even the system is wired to take advantage of your gender, status and race!

Like that was NOT enough, 4 homes owned by us were hijacked because a brother in law felt disgruntled about America’s Law of allowing wife serve as legal administrator. Of course, he found conniving Judas among American judges, attorneys, realtors, brokers, and banks. When one of the homes was sold with a huge overage held for me by the NJ Courts, satanic connivers found a way to ensure that no penny made it to me. Who does a widowed woman turn to for solace or solution?

I kept cutting back on accomplishment to fit in until I realised it was time to sign into ministry full time, join the military - my first love, or step up my own company, but even there, hurdles were erected which no one was ready to move. After crisscrossing all arms of military, I found a light at the tunnel of the US Navy but the naturalisation document, stolen or misplaced during the hijack of properties, but verifiable via my social security number became the needle’s eye. As for setting up nonprofit in the US, in spite of submitting all documents, getting 501c became the eye of the needle. Yes, the companies are registered but getting grant remains gagged until the white miwomiwo gods of 501c are appeased.

With thousands of dollars invested in PROSCI, one would expect that connection will emanate from there but alas it was all limitless resources with no window, door or even pinhole for use.

With 5 college degrees – 1 Bachelors, 3 Masters, 1 Doctorate with 2 of the degrees resting firmly on theological principles, usable in any setting desirous of virtuous righteous leanings, plus 5 certifications (I can’t claim one or two aren’t expired), many applications still ended in rejection. Even African American employers avoided multiplying the resource called AA!

But through it all, I have learned to trust in Jesus and sliced through the bars of asunder. In spite of all the rejections, I recorded praise reports and immense support from those divinity assigned and roles kept coming to me to minister soul care and manage special commissions. I worked with the presidency as private consultant, worked as preacher, publisher and content creator, worked as conference coordinator and other roles including doing programmes and projects for the less privileged, volunteering as caregiver to misionaries with two in end life cycle, and continued to offer transformation and mentorship under Excel Leadership Academy, taking on women in ministry under partnership or mentorship, shaping destinies of children and grandchildren especially when husband after husband elected to hack into histories sitting on his untamed ego...

AND two positions opened up without an application, compelling me to remember that God's 5 fold instruction remains engraved in the destiny calling me to serve humanity:

1. Return

2. Write

3. Complete Manuscripts

4. Don't look for job.

5. Do only the work I send your way.

The two were based on referrals... a call into relevance following an invitation to do what I do best -serve soul care via ministration.

Should you know companies in need of genuine missions to spend their CSR funds especially Dollars, Pounds or Naira on or in need of medical staffing in USA or NG, please reach me. After all the rough seasons, I can confidently say that item #7 is NOT menu, but mansion here and hereafter.

Following 7 years of advocacy, I gracefully step into the season of advancement. Thanks for welcoming me to new beginnings.

Peace.

EMERGE by Rev. Dr. Omolola Omoteso

Emerge: Ministration by Rev. Dr. Omolola Omoteso for the Virtuous Minds Fellowship Power Conference 2023

Congratulations to leader, ministers and members of the Virtuous Minds Fellowship on your sixth anniversary.

I thank Mr. Tochi Samuel for the honour of inviting me. God will make your calling and election sure in Jesus name. Helpers of destiny will search you out. I acknowledge speakers and ministers who God has brought your way through this mission. Double portion of grace will be poured into them in Jesus name.

I ask for forgiveness on the technical hitch. On principle, I elected to no longer join any social media hub but I was willing to come in just to honour the invitation provided I was spared the stress of set up. That stress eventually fell on me and I fell short.

I enquired of the Lord during fast and prayer and the concept to use for my message was delivered to me. When app download became impossible and access through the account was denied, I went the extra mile to record videos numbering 4 with total duration of 50-60 minutes in hope of sending it to be played. I sat down to edit it promptly only to realise that audio did NOT render. This had never happened before in my years of recording and producing videos. Then, I knew the battle was to stop me from delivering God's message to someone who needs a lifeline.

I pray that as the delay did not translate to denial for the few who joined, Lord God Almighty would grant you ease and speed. God in His infinite mercy will deploy His angels to deliver your miracles to you with no more delay.

I am Rev. Dr. Omolola Omoteso, my profile can be obtained from the founder of VMF, I trust that this message will serve transformation to all who listen beyond hearing in Jesus name.

Let us take this prayerful hymn together

I'm pressing on the upward way
New heights I'm gaining every day
Still praying as I onward bound
Lord plant my feet on higher ground

Lord lift me up and let me stand
By faith on heaven's tableland
A higher plane than I have found
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground

Let us pray to commit the session into God's hands.

Ancient of Days we thank you. Thank you for bringing us to the throne room of grace to obtain mercy. Thank you for Virtuous Minds Fellowship and the visioner - your dear son Tochi Samuel. Thank you for members, partners and sponsors of the vision. Thank you for Power Conference through which your children will be endued with power from on high. As I deliver your message, speak to individual hearts. Let there be healing, deliverance and of course let there be salvation as you make your calling and election sure in the lives of all who continue to live righteously. The anointing to emerge from darkness into full light of grace, Lord Jesus deposit it into our lives and let us make heaven when you call us to limitless bliss, in Jesus name I pray. AMEN.

This year's Power Conference is themed EMERGE with biblical reference from Isaiah 60:1-3, Arise. Shine. The Light of God in you has positioned you to EMERGE in grace and glory.

How do I define the word EMERGE (IMAJ)? To move out of obscurity to become outstanding. To move out of invisibility to become visible. To emerge from the fog, from the smoke, from the gloom or grief into full life of relevance in Jesus Christ. To come out, NOT the way homosexuals do but the way God's children step out from darkness into God's marvellous light. To emerge is to manifest beyond your limitation circumstances; to become apparent or prominent.

As I fasted and inquired of what to share, 6 words were dropped on my mind which spells EMERGE. That is what we will share today.

1. Education
2. Mentorship
3. Etiquette
4. Righteousness
5. Giving
6. Excellence

You can create your own message using other words like Empower, Mission, Eloquence, Reach, Guide, Encourage.

Education

To emerge you must study to show yourself approved under a mentor and learn the ways of doing things socially with a foundation of doing things right, as laid down by God and give yourself as a living sacrifice under the direction of God, which is your reasonable Holy Spirit guided service!

The same Bible that warns in Ecclesiastes 12:12 that much book wearies the body, inspired us about the value in education when we read how Jesus grew - Luke 2:40. He grew all round so much so that at 12 years, Jesus was already expounding God’s Word with sages and leaders. This is in libe with the Biblical injunction that we should study to show ourselves approved so we will NOT be faced with shame and demotion

Albert Einstein is reported to have stated, “Once you stop learning, you start dying”.’ This quote is real especially where it concerns mental ability and social stability (Psalm 19:27).

One day, I randomly asked my Dad why his sister who married an influential man never received formal education. His first response was that his first wife never approved. As a researcher, I probed further. The man was legally married when he pleaded with the family of my aunt to marry her under traditional law at an age when it was considered honourable for an influential man to desire a good lady from a good family for marriage. I asked, but why did the man who was a man of means decide against encouraging or supporting her to receive education. With this question, the real story emerged.

She loved to be educated and was in Primary School. One day, she returned crying and reported to her grandma, a woman of means who sold locust beans, that the teacher beat her. Mama Oni'ru, as she was called, took a short walk to the school to chide the teacher and decided there and then that her grand daughter will no longer go to school. Report has it that my Dad's sister danced her way home after making it clear she had warned the teacher that her action would be met with counter action. But whose loss was it? Her grandma created her own hawking basket and she became her sales girl. At over 90 years, she still desires to be educated but no one went the extra mile like my MOTHER who used the opportunity of short visits in the past to teach her few words which she is always excited to use even today; she even blows kisses!

This woman of great wisdom would have gone farther in life IF she is lettered. It brings to mind the story of Mama Nike Okundaye who also was a wife in a polygamous home and decided to seek better opportunities through education and the art of tye dye making. When opportunty came to go abroad, she realised she could no longer pass off the need to be lettered. Through education, informally and formally, she emerged and has become a global sensation.

Education is a big part of development whether formal or informal, direct or indirect. At Excel Leadership Academy, we have a 30-45 days Transformation Programme crafted to serve disciples, trainees and mentees mind renewal which will lead to heart healing and ultimately transformation towards the fulfilment of destiny.

As the world moves, we must grow to find our niche. A crawling teen may never be enrolled in the same school as children her age now walking but it does not mean the child should not be educated. Disability or delay should never be an excuse. From when a child gives out a loud cry into the world, those in the child’s circle of influence must continue to respond by guiding and guarding the child towards a path that let’s the child praise, pray, prepare, plan, pursue purpose and profit.

Matthew 28:19-20 enjoin us:
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

God is with you to the end so why worry or let fear stop you from receiving the education you need. When Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye became the General Overseer, everyone including his wife was encouraged to return to school, even his driver . Today, Pastor Foluke Adeboye, nee Adeyokunnu, heads the Department of Children and Teen Education while Pastor Zacheus Mulero the former driver was directed to put his knowledge to use following going to Bible College. Pastor Joel Osteen's education at the feet of his father led him to translate a former sports stadium into spiritual stage where Word of Life transformd destinies.

The programming of a computer determines what it is able to do and achieve. As high tech as many consider the computer to be, it can only accomplish about 5% of what our divinely wired brain can achieve. We must continue to learn, unlearn and relearn. As you do so remember that just as virus can limit the capacity or capability of the computer to achieve exploits so can vices limit you. Hence the need to guard your mind.

Mentorship
To learn the art of clothes designing and sewing, I learned under a Ghanaian Instructor. To learn about puberty, I was under the mentorship briefly of one of our teachers Mrs. Avoseh. To learn about discipline, I was guided by a lady we knew then as Aunty Ireti Banjo in Araromi Baptist Church Obalende. To learn about missions, research and projects as a member of the Nigeria Baptist Convention's Girls Auxiliary and Lydia Auxiliary I was mentored by Mrs. Sanyaolu, Rev. Yemi Ladokun and Ms. Anita Roper who is now 96 and I visited her in July 2023 in Atlanta. I had a different mentor in leadership training and I grew to become Chief Training Officer and later Deputy Commandant for the entire Man O War Clubs in High Institutions in Nigeria. I had a deeply spiritual mother who was my life and prayer mentor. In my 40s God led me to prophets as well. In a season, I spent 10 days at a Prayer Mountain learning from the feet of Archbishop Siyanbola Olaniyi while her pastors and evangelists prayed over me and made prophetic proclamations daily. For my masters and doctorate degrees in Biblical Counselling, I had the mentorship of Overseer Robyn Edward and Bishop Jacqueline McCollough.

Mentorship is the guidance provided by an experienced person in a calling, career,, field, company or institution. It is a form of education but includes one on one tutoring.

Who is making your journey to success shorter by sharing tips with you and walking the tight ropes of life with you? When life hits you with lemon, who directs you to translate it to lemonade?

Esther had mentorship under Mordecai, her adoptive father. Samuel learned under Eli. Eli's children missed it because the guidance the mentee patiently received was rebuffed by his own children.

Mentorship has duration. You could have just one all round mentor and you could have different mentors for different areas of life. Jesus grew all round because He was divinely mentored. Our first mentor is Jesus Christ but we need physical mentors. Ask God to direct you to midwives or ministers to help your destiny emerge.

2 Timothy 2:2 puts it aptly:
The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful ones who will be able to teach others also.

Proverbs 27:17
Iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another.

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Psalm 71:18
And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Your strength to this generation,Your power to all who are to come.

Are you being mentored towards the fulfilment of destiny. Samuel never missed it, Esther never missed it. Ruth never missed it. They patiently submitted themselves for mentorship. Who is your mentor. To emerge, you need a God-led mentor. Be mindful that these mentors may NOT be Christians. Esther was mentored by her uncle who took on the role of father. She was guided to marry a guide who did NOT know God; the marriage was for political influence to enable her redeem God's people.

1 Thessalonians 2:8
Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us.

Yes, bond grows in mentorship. Some of my mentees have no other word for me than MUMMY. These mentees include those who are older. A teenager I mentored became my adopted son. As I say of him, he is like 3 sons to me.

Philippians 4:9
The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

It is a waste to learn and not put it to use. Mentor's work is to make you avoid preys and pitfalls. I remember receiving spiritual signals about my children, and I would travel to them to correct things before such become problems.

Proverbs 13:20
He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm.

John 14:26
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

No mentor can mentor you for life but the Holy Spirit can do so and help you grow in faith especially when temptations, trials, and tribulations come.

Etiquette

Etiquette and decorum is one of the topics we teach as Excel Leadership Academy.

As Christians we live in the world and have to relate with people of the world. I was so upset once when a man displayed a lack of etiquette. He was in a meeting as leader, and with morsel of cassava meal being rolled in his hands he was calling out to people for discussion in a high end restaurant. Finesse matters. It is okay to eat with your hands, if that is your culture, but it is definitely not okay to be chewing and talking. You could choke. To emerge etiquette and decorum matters.

Baba Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God once shared how he lost an opportunity to get a juicy job and travel abroad because he had no idea how to relate in a formal social setting in reference to dining table manners. Thankfully this was not his last open door to the global world.

My question to you is, will you blend or bend in a room filled with aristocrats? I knew the teacher employed for a woman when she became Governor’s wife. Once her husband became President, she arrogantly sacked the grammar teacher. She later faced shame for what could have been learned. It was said that Mr. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Nigeria's former president, kept drinking cups of tea poured out to him at a function because he was unaware of the British mannerism of turning tea cup upside down to indicate he no longer wanted to be served. He continuously drank so as not to appear rude to his seemingly generous host. Of course he made it to the newspapers!

Sleeping in a movie theater is against social norm. Using your phone while having dinner with guests is against social norm. Making sounds with your cutlery, mouth while chewing or tongue while picking you teeth is off social norm. To emerge, you have to stand out. Obama did NOT become the first African to call the White House Residence by disregarding social norms; he had to stop smoking I presume this was publicly as well as privately) to fit into his calling as leader.

In different settings, there are social norms to observe. Nabal was married to a wife who knew the moral codes for communal living, but his ego prevented him from learning from her. Soon, he became the ladder his wife climbed out of the life of obscurity he placed her in. Abigail emerged from the oven to the front burners. What are the moral codes, etiquette or decorum for church, community, corporation etc. Note 10 that you know, discovered or uncovered and call a member of Virtuous Minds Fellowship to discuss this. Is there a proper way to talk to people or pray to God? Is it result oriented to talk to God anyhow in private or public? What does the Bible say about praying amiss? What do you need to transform in you to fit into the circle God has taken you or is taking you? Google is your friend but does it have all the answers for life, living, leaning, learning, or loving? How is the Bible your navigator?

The Bible asked that you do NOT sit in the seat of the scornful, that is etiquette. To emerge it is important to learn etiquette - how to sit, protocol for greeting, courtesy in royal courts etc.

Righteousness

If righteousness exalts a nation, it will exalt a person too because the Bible referred to people as nations. The mother of twin Esau and Jacob was told that two nations are in her womb. The Bible in 2 Peter called you a holy nation.

Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning. Proverbs 9:9, Proverbs 1:5

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. Psalm 34:19

As you live righteously God will deliver you from all afflictions. He has delivered me from many - jealousy, satanic network, diabolic attacks, the valleys of the shadow of death, near fatal accidents, accusations that should have led to shame and reproach, contention even court cases. As God delivered me from them all, He made me stronger than my enemies including household enemies.

The Bible says we have been quickened with Christ, raised and made to sit together with Him in heavenly places. Where Jesus Christ is, that is where we are. As He is, so are we in this world. This is for just one reason, God's righteousness in us because what could be called our own righteousness is filthy. Jesus Christ in us is the hope of glory. Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. When you know and understand this you will remain focused and you will certainly emerge as winner against satanic suppression and oppression.

Being righteous does not exist in a vacuum. Those called righteous or blameless in the Bible walked with God, were humble, were prayerful or praiseful, were diligent, never covered their sin but instead owned up and did things right.

Giving

Giving and Tithing is another topic under Cares Global Network's Excel Leadership Academy (CGN-ELA) Transformation Programme (TP).

Are you a giver or a griever. Do you give to God or grieve the Holy Spirit. The Bible says a person's gifts will make a way for the person which means from time to time you need to give. This is NOT about bribery. Never say I do NOT have enough. The widow was moved by empathy to give her all. The anointing upon the prophet's life multiplied what she had and was unmindful of, so much so she never lacked again.

To emerge you must learn to give as directed by God. The church I am attending is building and I had to make sacrifice of giving outside my earning even though I am presently not in paid employment. For my birthday I told God what I desired to give to add to what I had already given. Guess what God did? He brought people who gave between times 5 and times 7 of what I planned to give! God multiplied my desire to give.

One thing that is a fact is that Christianity is NOT a religion; anyone who follows the principles of giving will reap more. No harvest is less than the seeds sown. Just from posting on my status, I recently received a $400 donation towards our ACE Project through which we give Easter Packs to widows, orphans and others. This is a project I have largely self funded for years. I discovered that when I give as directed by God, He takes up the responsibility of watering, weeding and nurturing the seed.

God led me to give $100 to 10 Pastors. It was a painful sacrifice in the height of covid with no paid employment or contract. The interesting thing is that only one of them was known to me - my Prayer Partner. The instruction was that she will pick the remaining 9! For real?! I know 20 pastors who need that money and who would take up the job of praying for one year if they get 50$ each! Would that have yielded result when it was NOT what God directed? Igboran san ju ebo riru lo (1 Samuel 15:22).

Immediately I obeyed, someone I had declined opportunity to give me cash gift because I believed the person had done enough for me in the area of counsel and consulting asked again to send me money. After I said no, God said to me “...that was your reimbursement.” Ha! E tete so sa! You could have told me earlier Lord! I quickly reached the person with a YES and in spite of obstacles, the person wired money to me. Guess how much was sent? $1000! Whether you believe in offering

It was to give counsel to chess players and others that I wrote a proposal and decided to train counsellors to work with me. This is how I met Evangelist Tochi Samuel. During that period, going the extra mile led to salvation, healing, deliverance and even turn around for some of the participants who were on the losing lane before they came for counsel. And Evangelist Tochi experienced the hand of God when God led me to dismantle illegal structures, the evening before, and to mount a spiritual search the next day; the cummulative effort in obedience to the Holy Spirit, unearthed his stolen phone.

I pray God will continue to fight your battles, infuse you with power to position you to emerge victorious.

In rising from the dead Jesus said, All power is given unto me in heaven and in the earth (Matthew 28:18). Not some but all. If power is given to God who called us gods it means in giving our sacrifice of praise, prayer, purpose and paying of vows that same power has been given to us as believers. Where giving, including the sacrifice of praise, is divinely directed, know that God is a REWARDER. Hebrew 11:6

Let's look at the final letter E, for Excellence.

Excellence

Excellence is the quality of being outstanding. Your yearning or longing for excellence will push you to want to become a better you and push you out to become visible to others. There is no where I go to nationally and internationally that I don't stand out. Why? The Spirit of the Lord is upon me to create smiles and heal hearts.

Dear brethren, it is not the job you do but the purpose you serve with excellence. If I am given a job as a toilet cleaner, everyone who comes in would be blessed by how excellently I have done my job. I will anoint the toilet, have music playing, sanitise the place, have toilet rolls readily available, ensure there is water, have wall hangings there. The Holy Spirit is telling me I can start by doing this in my private toilet! 🤣

One of my trainees visited to assist with washing, drying and packaging clothes for the less privileged. When I served her a glass of juiced fruit, she was so dumbfounded that she looked away wondering who it is for. If you are in my office or home, making sure you are comfortable means you could receive a glass of water, juice or snack. Later, God led me to step out to help her peg the clothes. I saw that the clothes laid out on the lines looked like they were just tossed there! I corrected her that excellence does not mean going the extra mile publicly or for the rich, it means serving quality in all you do.

Guess what my favourite verse in the Bible is? I have a gift for the first 2 active members of VMF who discovers it.

A young girl was taken abroad as a domestic servant to an ambassador because she was passionate about helping the woman; a church member. She was fascinated that they were rich but she was not fixated on wealth just wanted to help and she went the extra mile and learned to do her job better as she grew. Today, she is a resident and has her own home with mortgage fully paid in the USA.

Everything we see today will go, including the people. The only three things we have is Trinity, Time and Teams. What we truly have are moments that soon become memories. What memory do you want to leave people with - the way you shoddily applied yourself to assignments or the quality or excellence you served?

As we have seen with many African leaders, sustaining excellence is a challenge. How well have leaders known for excellence sustained this virtue?

We saw in the Bible how Daniel, a successful leader in national government faced the choice whether to take a short unethical cut or risk his own life in the midst of cabals, chief of which was his own boss Darius - a pagan. Daniel had an excellent spirit (Daniel 6:1-4, Proverbs 20:6). The Spirit of Excellence is the Holy Spirit that teach us how and when to do things.

A man in authority who is led by God is always a threat to the shady dealings of people who are unethical. Daniel was impeccable. He distinguished himself which led to the king’s decision to promote him. Be rest assured that when enemies find nothing on you, especially at work, they will question your faith and do everything to make you fall!

With an excellent spirit in me, those around me glean and learn. It is not a surprise that my school son became a worthy PR Consultant! In Daniel was found an excellent spirit, which counted for much more.

Daniel was ethical, upright and responsible, so those who audited him found nothing to nail him.

Be excellent.

Conclusion

My brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, if you desire to EMERGE start by asking yourself, am I educated in the area of calling or career God led me to.

Overseer Robyn Edward's is a trained singer but if she failed in her role as Overseer in Ministry she would NOT have emerged. Who is your mentor. If you are not free to share with your parents or you discount what they tell you and they cannot hold you accountable, find a mentor. If my daughter in law says, I will report you to mum, my son begins to beg and amend his ways. Not because I can cane or spank him but because of respect and reverence.

If you are a man or woman and there is no one anyone can report you to, you are a danger to yourself because no one will be able to call you back from darkness into light. A man who was a secretary in a church for years suddenly began to follow Guru Marahji. His only meal became flowers. Friends cautioned him but he ignored them because none could hold him accountable. His wife could not prevail on him to retrace his steps. While Guru ate dainty meals, he ate flowers and died of ulcer! What an inglorious end for a man who once led others to Jesus Christ.

We are not of the world but in the world as such we must learn how things are done socially. No Christian male or female should dress indecently in the name of fashion. You may get camera clicks but it never equates to you emerging; it would only be a flash in the pan and some would even mock you. If you are attending an all-white event, do not choose to wear all-black when you have all-white. Never break social rules in the name of I am a Christian except such rules go against Godly principles. What the world calls etiquette pales in comparison to righteousness; God's standard is higher.

Follow the Jesus Messiah, and walk in the light of Biblibal rules which are commandments. 10 in number but summarised into 2 - Love God, Love you to enable you love your neighbour. Righteousness with peace and joy are required for positive living. Give it shall be given to you, pressed down, shaken together and running over shall people give to you! I chose to give God praise for my 50th. Guess what happened? God blessed me with more money than many who decide to focus on partying get. I still got more than enough to give to God. Above all as the Bible puts it, to emerge, let everything be done decently and in order, this means do things excellently.

If you emerge shabbily you will be sent to the back or away. Esther had to put on a royal attire as she risked death to see her husband. The prodigal son had to be dressed in royalty before being ushered back to his father's presence. The disciplined brother who never took advantage of royalty was never thrown a party! One thing I always urge those I meet or minister to, dress for your next job and dress the way you want to be addressed. Being excellent includes how you present you, your shelter even your storage to others.

Perhaps you are saying, I have done all these and success still appears to be far from reach, let me share with you from Page 15 and 16 of the book God led me to author - Wired for Success.

You may have tried and may have failed to succeed [or emerge] because of 3 salient reasons:

1. You minimise your divine wiring for success and rather lament. Are you aware some born blind or without limbs have succeeded exponentially; why not you?

2. You maximise your limiting circumstance. My parents are poor and opened up no opportunities for me is merely lamentation, alagemo ti bi omo re tan, ailejo ku si owo re! The dancing masquerade has birthed, dancing is left to the offspring.

3. You undermine the power of potential, purpose, passion, perseverance or positioning.

These three are like tempered glass and you need to break them and this starts with your words.

Begin to verbally maximise your divine wiring to emerge - I am the top and not the tail.

Begin to minimise your limiting circumstances - If Rev. Omolola whose parents never travelled out became the first to travel in her nuclear family then I can and I will. IF Prof. Adeboye who had no shoes into teen years became the Overseer of a ministry in about 200 countries, I will emerge outstandingly.

Begin to tap into the power to become stored up in you, if you undermine that power, you could die in obscurity.

Above all believe that you are programmed by God to emerge and begin to navigate life with a will to emerge the righteous way through Godled divination, direction, discipline, determination, and desire.

I decree that you shall emerge powerfully in Jesus name.

Please feel free to share your feedback and share what we do with others to help CGN, GWM, ELA, DC and RCC emerge as a one stop shop for the gift of transformation. I trust that already you have become the announcer for the vision under the leadership of your parent, leader or mentor.

As I wrapped up the scripting for this message, I asked the Holy Spirit for a song and this was promptly delivered to my mind... In that same hour, I sang and shared it with the Visoner and on my status for lives to be blessed. I got into bed and continued to sing along as I played the recording. The very first verse is shared here, the last two can be changed as the Holy Spirit directs.

I desire to emerge
I desire to emerge
Lord call me forth
Let me stand on higher ground

In closing, I pray for you that the Lord will grant you the grace to move out into light. You will emerge. You will arise. You will shine forth to the glory of God. You will fulfil destiny. You will be victorious in Jesus matchless name.

I decree after the order in Numbers 6:24-26:
The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: the Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: the Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

EMERGE!

Girls, Guys and God

GIRLS, GUYS AND GOD – Q+A SESSION (TRANSCRIPTION)
AN ONLINE MEETING WITH FGC ODOGBOLU CHAPEL STUDENTS
GUEST: DR. OMOLOLA OMOTESO

Salutation:
For those in Nigeria, good afternoon, for those in all other places, say America, good morning. Good day to you all. My name is Dr. Omolola Omoteso. I refer to myself as a Transformational Strategist but I do so many other things to the glory of God. I'll go right to the first question.

1. How can I balance my spiritual life and academic life?

How can I balance my spiritual and academic life? The question is already starting from a faulty premise because you don't have two lives, you have just one life. So, it should be "How do I balance my life?" . "How may I balance my life?" So, “how do you balance your life?" You have to go to your schedule. We all have 24 hours in a day. What do you want to achieve? Being a spiritual person is the core of who you are, and that is why if you are not getting enough sleep, you may not be getting messages, heaven may not be speaking to you. So you need to sit down and analyse your time. Sometimes, part of your schedule or part of your day is already taken up by things you can't change. If you are in class, if you have to go work, your employer is paying you to use your time, that's it. If you are going to school, you are investing time. So you need to now look at the remaining hours, sleep time is essential. I am still struggling with that… You need to sleep because it is during sleep you get messages, you get divine messages. So, you need to split what is left of your time. Give or take you give 6 to 8 hours to your sleep, if 8 hours is already taken up by work, there's still 8 more hours. Now, you need to pay a tithe of time, a lot of people struggle with that. A tithe of your time is either 2 hours, 40 minutes or if you are mathematician you count it to the last minute, so you know that you have to go to the basic of how many minutes are there in 24 hours. So to balance, you have to be a little bit partial and give more time to what you need more from. For instance, if you have a relationship, you need to invest time in that relationship; you have to. You alone can balance it, BUT you need the help of God and you need the help of the Holy Spirit. We can ask more questions on this later but this is my answer to that. God bless you.

2. Since God knows what is best for me, in what areas of my life do I need to trust him most?

I did say that I’m a Transformational Strategist, and that means I heal people's minds, you know. I do whatever God directs to change people's mindset. If you say that God knows what is best for you, then you need to trust him in all ways, everything; even what you put in your mouth. And that is where prayer over food comes from. You know, I go as far as asking God about what to wear when I'm going to occasions. There was a particular occasion I went to, which was an anniversary of a women's group for which I was the secretary many years ago. Those there now don't know my role or the position I held, I was actually the secretary to the Pastor-in-charge. So I was going to go to this church after so many years and I had to ask God-what do I wear? And he pointed to what I should wear and I wore it. Guess what? When I got to the event… most events have two colours when they are doing colour coding and all that in Nigeria. But this event, they had three colours. What I had on, had the three colours. People were asking me - did anybody show you what we were going to wear? Were you told the colours? God did! So, you need to trust him; it is challenging. I'm still working at it because there are times you feel - I can see it, I know it! But the fact that God asked you to drive in your car yesterday to go to a particular place does not mean God would want you to drive today. Baba Adeboye of RCCG told a story of how when he was going somewhere, God said - take this route. And he said - ah ahn.. but where I'm going is just this place, why should I take, I mean, that long place. So, he had it his own way and of course God would not force you. Guess what? The place he thought was very close had an accident or something had happened, he did not get to where he was going until hours later, he had to ask God for forgiveness. So, in what areas of your life do you need to trust God? Excuse me? Seriously? You need to trust him in all areas! You need to trust Him for your daily bread, your academics. You could be very intelligent and on the day you're supposed to "sweep" your exams as they call it, you know, pass in flying colours; you have a headache that stops you from leaving bed or you don't even wake up. We have a mate that died after he got into the university. Brilliant. But he had a stomach ache; stomach ache! And he did not make it alive. You need need to trust God in all areas.

3. Does my level of involvement in my church demonstrate that I love God and his purposes?

I welcome all those joining us, for me, this is big, the big! This is the first WhatsApp Conference for FGCO that I'm attending. We've done a lot of groups, you know, the alumni, the umbrella body, which is FGCO Old Students Association and I've been telling them, we need to do a conference and this is a conference. So, thank you so much for having me. The question is does my level of involvement in my church demonstrate that I love God and His purposes? Of course! If you put in a lot of work, everybody can see that you love God. But then, does it really demonstrate genuine love, sincere love; only God can award you marks! For loving him, and for doing things according to his purpose and I will explain. When I was in FGC Odogbolu last year to have a counselling project; one or two of you may have joined us. One of the students I counselled said to me, "I had spiritual gifts. I could prophesy, I could see things but I lost it." And she left it there. Then the Holy Spirit immediately said to ask her, “What did you do, as it relates to your involvement in church - you did something?" And she bowed her head in shame and she said me, "I stole money from the offering bag." She said but, “the Lord convicted me of it, I reported to my parents I asked for forgiveness and restituted".. or maybe she didn't restitute, I can't remember the full details because I try not to note down their names so I don't go sharing their names or anything like that. Anyway, I said to her - that's it right there. That's why you lost your gift. According to her, well I've done everything I need to do why is the gift not back. You cannot hurry God to bring back your gift! It would take time, it would take conviction that you are repentant. Some of you sing so well in church, you are committed to rehearsals and everything and everybody can see. It shows that you love God and you are working according to His purpose. But guess what? If you just left a woman who is not married to you, you just left her house after sex to go and hold the microphone, God is not happy with you. Your involvement is not demonstrating to God that you love Him. Also, the Bible says; that you should commit that he would bless the work of your hands. Have you ever asked - what work will He bless? What work will He bless.

4. What is the fastest means to growing up spiritually, prior my initial belief, keeping my spiritual life seems very hard especially in this world of temptations.

The fourth question seems to asking for shortcuts (smiles). I wish I know some that I can quickly take in order to win God's heart more! What is the fastest way to grow up spiritually prior my initial belief, keeping my spiritual life seems very hard especially in this world of temptation. That question is lumped together but I will try and unravel it. Shortcuts, none. To growing up spiritually, zero. Ko si shortcuts. Ba shortcuts. There is no shortcut to growing up spiritually. There are shortcuts to growing up physically; not really growing up physically but to be successful or to be seen as being successful by the world, there are shortcuts. But with God there is no shortcut. The way to grow, is for you to invest time. I already spoke about time. I already spoke about being partial with your time for what you really want to draw more from. So, the fastest means of growing spiritually is for you to invest time in prayers. And it's not selfish prayers ...seeking God's face. For me, there were times that I had to go the mountains. Recently, I spent 10 days with a Spiritual Leader, just having a team pray with me. In fact, when I got to the room I was supposed to be lodged in, I almost ran back. I was like ..what is this! (laughs). I won't even put, you know... (grins)… Anyway, let me leave it there (laughs). So, investing. That's the word. You have to invest time in studying the Bible. You have to invest time in listening to men and women of God, because God shares his heart through them. You have to invest time in conferences, you have to invest time in friendship with people of God. You have to invest time in reading your Bible! There are hidden truths in the Bible. Before, for me to receive spiritual messages concerning somebody I'm counselling, it would take quite some time, I have to pray. But now, you sit in front of me and God is already giving me messages about you because I would have prayed ahead! And so when you come for counsel, my spiritual eyes of understanding are opened and I can immediately tell you. There was somebody that came to me, you know, he was having challenges - money, everything. And he wanted to like – “Omolola I need to talk to you, I need to talk to you” - because we were colleagues. And I said no, you need to schedule. Normally, I would have asked you to pay but I know you so don't worry about payment but you need to schedule. I ask people to schedule because I need to spend time to pray about it. And when it was time - my prayer just before we started was, “Holy Spirit reveal, Holy Spirit reveal” - and I said to him, “You pray.” And as he was praying God revealed to me that he did business with somebody and he cheated the person out of profit. Now, I wouldn't have known that if I tried to do shortcuts. So, for you to gain more, for you to be a spiritual giant, you need to invest time, especially in this world of temptation. Thank you. Let me add to that, you don't have a spiritual life separate from your secular life. You have just one life! So, if you want to grow spiritually, yes, you can grow spiritually because you have your social, spiritual, environmental, physical you know. Thats why we talk about your physical health, you have your mental, your psychological... If you want to grow spiritually, you need to invest time, invest time sincerely. Thank you. Let me quickly correct question four. . There is nothing like prior my initial belief. If you say prior my initial belief - then you are saying before your initial belief. If you are saying at your initial belief - at your initial belief you just know that you believe in God, that's it. You just believe in God. So, you are really empty spiritually, you're just at a point where you may have grown up as a Christian, yes. You may have something in you already but you need to build. You need to now build on whatever you know or whatever you have or whatever level you are on.

5. Is it a must I speak in tongues, I have been doing so but it's as if I am saying rubbish?

Speaking in tongues - this is a full course on its own but I'll make it simple. Is it a must I speak in tongues, I have been doing so but it's as if I am saying rubbish? First, do you understand what it means to speak in tongues. It's also called GLOSSOLALIA. What does it mean to speak in tongues? Because if you understand the meaning, then, you would not feel like you're speaking rubbish. It is the language of the spirit, it's a language that somebody somewhere understands. It's a language of the spirit. It's suppose to strengthen you spiritually, confuse Satan because one of the ways Satan and his messengers get to us is that we say a lot of things in understanding and they too can understand. If transmitters can pick waves, then they can pick up these things. But when you speak in spiritual language, then you confuse Satan. But guess what, the Bible says there should be people who can decode. So at times when we're speaking in tongues, if it's not in worship or not directly to God, we really shouldn't be speaking! We're supposed to speak in tongues in context of other people, decoding what we've said - for the edifying of the church. So, if it's for you or yourself, then it's private. If it's in public, then it should be in worship or direct prayer to God. Now, He understands, so because he understands you're not speaking rubbish. God understands the heart of children. God understands the babble of children. My mum used to understand when a child is babbling. She'll tell you what the child is saying and I learned it from her - I'm able to tell parents this is what your child is saying and they look at me weird (laughs). So, it is not rubbish. It may be rubbish to people who are hearing you because they do not understand. Just the same way if I start speaking French now, some of you will say, "Kilonso, s’alaye e fun mi. Kilonso, decode e fun, mi” (Yoruba for - What is she saying, please explain to me). You know, I once spoke at an event and a young man came to meet me and he just started fumbling in French and I responded to him and he said, "Ah mo gbe, mo da’ran, mummy gbo French... Meaning, for those who don't speak Yoruba - "Ah, I'm in trouble, mummy understands French. I don't understand more than what I just said". So you see, speaking in tongues is not rubbish. There are times you can’t even put in words, at those times, you can speak in the spirit and the spirit will hear you because you're not speaking to humans. But in the context of the church, that's why you have prophetic churches like 'Aladura' churches where somebody would "enter into the [realm of the] spirit" as they say, and another Elemi, another spiritual person who can decode would begin to decode. Of course, some of it are lies but some of it are very very true. God bless you. Crosswalk.com/faith/spirituall-life/10-things-to-know-about-speaking-in-tongues.html.

6. Is there a real hell and why would a loving God send anyone there?

Question 6 is a question that comes up in Philosophy and generally in the world. Is there a real hell and why would a loving God send anyone there? That's a very technical question. Is there a real hell? The Bible says, yes. There is heaven, there is hell. But whether it is a particular location here on Earth, no, it's not a particular location here on Earth otherwise we would point to it and we would find a way to just, you know, protest against it (grins) and whatever we need to do. The Bible says there is Hell and there is Heaven. So I'm going to leave it at that, I'm not going to question what has become unimaginable to a lot of human minds. A loving God, yes, a loving God; He wouldn't want to send anybody there and that's why he went as far as putting Himself forward as a propitiation. We talk about God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. This is the Triune God. A God who is actually one but as three persons; it's mystery to our ears, right? It’s three in one. So when we say Jesus came, that's part of the God-Head. So, technically He sent Himself, He sent a version of Himself. He sent His son, but who is actually a version of Himself, to the world. So he already made the sacrifice just so that we don't perish. If you have a child, and you correct the child all the time and the child does the same thing, some parents have gone as far as saying I am going to disinherit you. I am going to make sure that my will, my Living Will does not contain anything for you because you're grieving my soul. That is how God must feel. He created us. He is loving. And that is why I say there is God in every human. Even the rapist, the terrorist, the killers and my sermon has been locate that God in them; minister to that love that they carry. No human being was born to destroy, no human being was born to cheat in exams - let's bring it home or cheat at work, present other people's work as yours. No human being was born with that mind. We were birthed into the world and we picked it up from here because the nature of our parents was already sinful. But God did not fashion human beings that way. So, if you can minister to their hearts, if you can get to the core of their minds, then you are able to transform them. So, yes, God is loving, He doesn't want to send people to hell and he's done everything and He's still doing everything. What did he do to Saul, He had to go and confront him... He had done everything to try and change Saul, He had to go and confront him; making him blind! That was the God of love putting in tough love. So God doesn't want to send anybody there, He had given us everything we need to prevent you from going there but when you say - 'I gotta go, I must go' this God let's you have your way and so you send yourself right into hell. God forbid that any of those on this timeline would end up in that kind of eternity where all you do is gnash your teeth and beat a fire that you cannot stop, God forbid. But it's not just about, 'God forbid', you need to work at it to make sure you don't become a candidate for hell, God bless you.

7. How can I stay focused on God's presence daily and have faith in him, especially when he feels distant and silent? How can I stay focused on God's presence daily and have faith in Him, especially when he feels distant and silent? God shouldn't feel distant, he shouldn't. If you know Him, if you understand Him. It's a loving relationship, you know. I wake up in the morning or whenever I wake up depending on when I go bed and I can immediately feel God. As I'm opening my eyes, I'm saying thank you Jesus for another beautiful day, because I see him even in my being alive. When I set my alarm for instance for 10.30AM on days that I go to bed maybe 6AM, having worked all night. If I set my alarm for 10.30AM, the Holy Spirit would always wake me at least 5 or 2 minutes before. That is God letting me know that He's present. I once received court papers over three hundred pages in a case of fraud; in a case steeped in fraud. And when I got it I almost bursted into tears, where am I going to start reading this from! And my heart, my mind said a word of prayer. And as I opened, believe it or not, I opened to the most important page in the document. A page where they put something that was against the Plaintiff. That is God. So you must understand the person of God, especially the person of the Holy Spirit, so you don't go looking for physical reasons to prove that God is present. You don't need air to blow in (makes sound of breeze), so you'll say 'Oh, God is here!’ No. You can just literally feel him. Somebody once said to me, your bedroom does not have a lock (laughs), you know, in my home in the US, and I smiled. If it has a lock, a gun can burst it open, right? So I'm protected by God. Some people went to check babalawo (Yoruba for traditional priest) and they came to me to say, "We saw you! "We saw you! We saw you moving around the house, you were holding candle, you were doing procession, you think that would save you" and I smiled. I was praying with my Prayer Partner and we were both trying to decode, “Was it in Google they saw me? Where did they... I didn't do candle... I didn't... and immediately the Holy Spirit dropped in our minds, they went to check mediums. Angels are surrounding your house with lights, but all they could see were humans, because they are limited. So to stay focused, immerse yourself into God and gradually God would become more evident to you. He is never distant, He is never silent. He may not speak directly to you all the time but He's speaking for us, His blood on the cross is making atonement for us daily, or should I say per second. God bless you.

8. It's really looking hard for me to be spiritual, it's as if am not just getting it, today am in Christ, tomorrow I'm in sin. I have fasted, prayed, done all I can, it makes me feel empty, sad, but I don't just know what to do. Thank you for this question. It's really looking hard for me to be spiritual, it's as if am not just getting it, today am in Christ, tomorrow I'm in sin. I have fasted, prayed, done all I can, it makes me feel empty, sad, but I don't just know what to do. There's one more thing you're yet to do if you're struggling this hard with Christianity. It's not like people don't fall into sin; people do - Spiritual Giants do; I do, I'm human but the Holy Spirit convicts you of what you've done wrong. But when you're talking about falling, as in, it has become a cycle. When people ask me, "Am I a sinner", no, I'm not a sinner! "But do you sin?" Oh yes, infrequently I do, but I'm not a sinner. But what you've described is somebody who is a sinner, who keeps falling and stumbling, you know, like the person is just learning to walk. Guess what? You're yet to yield to the Holy Spirit. You've got to put your will into His hands. That is what it really means. Christianity is being like Christ. You cannot be like Christ without giving yourself fully to him. You can't give him 85% and say, you see this sexuality part, Ehn, Baba o ye ko understand now (God, you ought to understand), I would have to hold this one myself because I need somebody to charge my battery. You can't do that. You have to give your will completely to Him. If you're feeling sad today, feeling happy tomorrow, it's because you're yet to tap into the joy of salvation. The joy does not come from you having money in your account. In fact, on days when I don't have money, people would see me so happy they can't believe I don't have money because God is my banker! If God is your banker is not about what is in your account! Right now, I have a personal account that is not run by me. Somebody else has the token, somebody else has everything on that account and when I'm going to the ATM, I just go with confidence, I don't know whether money is there but I'm trusting my banker would not disappoint me. So, you need to give your will over to God. You see, as a Christian, there are 3 roads to it. One is your accepting Christ. Another, is your confessing Christ, actually living in Christ because you can accept Christ and not live in Christ, it doesn't make you a Christian. People saw you coming out for altar call but you have not given your will to him; you are yet to give yourself to him. You are yet to do things that shows that you're a Christian. And finally, you now giving yourself to him. You see, when a man propose to a woman she has to accept. After accepting you do the confession publicly, you go in public and you ask again - let's be sure that we're really doing this. And public could be one person, two people, whatever you chose... a crowd! And finally, you have to physically give yourself! When two people get married and there's no consummation of the marriage which is there's no sex, the marriage can be annulled, because it means they didn't give themselves - you didn't give yourself to that man or that man didn't give himself to you. If there's no consummation there's really no marriage. So spiritually, the consummation is you yielding yourself, your will, your everything to God. Your money too! Praise the name of the Lord.

9. How can I make the best use of what God has given me?

How can I make the best use of what God has given me? The simple answer is for you to use what God has given you to God's glory, and I'll use an analogy. A thousand dollars came into your hands. You have so many things you can achieve with a thousand dollars but God said to you, take 500, go to xyz home, give it to the woman there and you say, "Get thee behind me Satan. Get thee behind me Satan! $500 to a woman I don't know, lailai!” (meaning, no way!) But God has given you a gift, a money gift and He is directing the use of the money gift but suddenly you are taking ownership of that money and saying, "No, I will not.” Is that the best use of what God has given you? No. God has given you a voice for instance, to sing, and He wants you to sing gospel but you said to yourself - Ah, gospel artists? It takes time before they make money, I have to do rap. That is not the best use of what God has given you. For a long while, Ebenezer Obey (now Pastor Ebenezer Obey), who is the Overseer at the The Cross Church was into the world, he was using his gifts in a secular way but guess what? Because God was still in charge, Obey wasn't really singing razz songs, his songs were still inspiring and edifying and even today as a Pastor he can still sing some of those songs because I trust he yielded part of his will to God. He decided to glorify God in whatever he was doing even though he was living in sin. So how best can I use what God has given me? To the glory of God, as directed by God, as led by God. I had my calling into ministry as far back as when I was in high school, but I told God - look for someone else to your job. Yes, you've given me this gift but I am not going to do ministry. Later on, I decided to do ministry; money wasn't coming in, excuse me? “See people I prophesied for, see people I did this for, see people I did that for, they are not giving back! Oluwa, hold your job!” But what is the best use of God's gift, it is to lift other people up, it is to bless humanity, that's why he gives gifts. That's why; to edify the church, to bless the world. Science today is helping so many people, but much more than science, is Love. If we can love one another, we won't have a lot of fraud in the world, we won't have selfishness and greed and the kind of hate that leads to racialjudicial-racism. So the best way to use God's gift is to use it to glorify him. I'm not saying that you have to do everything gospel, No! I don't only minister to people in the church, I don't only speak, I present academic papers as well. But, everything I do is focused on glorifying God. And when God says don't do something, it means don't do it! So, the best use of my talent is to glorify God, to advance His kingdom, and to bless humanity.

10. Last question ma, I always feel bored and sleepy when I want to read my Bible or pray, what can I do ma?

Remember, that the Bible says that the flesh wars against the spirit, the flesh wars against the spirit. Satan does not want anybody reading the bible. You want to get into the truth of God’s Word? Of course, something is going to fight it. But you see, when you schedule your hours and you commit time to it and you pray and you ask the Holy Spirit to help you… Many people try to mediate, maybe a husband and wife or two friends are quarrelling and they try to mediate – they say “you say your own, you say yours” and they want to do it by flesh. At the end of the day, they can pour the contention on your head, because guess what? You don’t have the professional skills and you don’t have the spiritual skills to handle it. The first thing to always do is to say, let us pray – so you bring their minds, their hearts under God. You bring the spirit of contention under God. So, when you pick your Bible, don’t try to read your Bible in bed, you’re gonna sleep, except maybe your bed as become your chair, you’re gonna sleep. So, after your praise, your worship or whatever you want to do, sit comfortably, sit in a chair, be alert! If the bed is the only thing you have, sit up right! Be alert! And say – Holy Spirit, help me. Illuminate my mind. Block out every interference. And decide what you want to read, Don’t just say I’m reading Psalm 103 or I’m reading Psalm 119, decide what you want to read, why you want to read it and focus! Sit comfortably, have a manual or a jotter, so that in between, you are jotting things so your mind is active, your hand is active, If you’re just reading, even when you read your school books for a long time, the only thing that motivates you is because you want to pass. So something should also be a push factor when you’re reading the Bible – I want to know more about this God, I want to know more about my lover! That’s it! If you’re reading a love note, you don’t fall asleep, because your lover as written to you and you are excited about reading it. That is the kind of excitement you should bring into reading the Word of God. If you’re reading a portion that is dragging you down because it’s like – he said… she said… or maybe about building the temple… and buying this gold etcetera, then go to a part, start from a part that resonates with you. The Psalms… The book of John, Luke… the gospel, you know, start from the things that come alive as you’re reading it and gradually move to those things that may appear “not to be interesting” but they matter! When you read the early part of the bible you’ll see how detailed God is, He is giving them all the details, the kind of gold, the kind of wood; its amazing! And that is how detailed we should be as Christians. But before you get into that, start from a point where you are comfortable, then it means to you, it is interesting, it makes sense, and then gradually go to those parts you consider hard. And don’t forget, always start with, “Holy Spirit, help me” and that will keep boredom away, that will keep sleepiness away. See it as you’re reading a love letter from your lover who is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit and boredom, sleep, would be kept at bay.
